The Devon School of English has a long history of success in preparing students for Cambridge Examinations. It is possible to join courses for shorter periods, but strictly by arrangement with the School.

Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE)

This exam can be taken in March, June and December. The Cambridge English Proficiency exam is a demanding test for C1 Advanced level students and above. Students starting the course should already be at a C1 Advanced level and will ideally have passed either the FCE or CAE test. CPE is an important, internationally-recognised with widespread acceptance in academia, commerce and industry. Students attend the course for 23 hours a week.

Courses generally commence 12 weeks before the examination date. You will follow a syllabus that has been carefully designed to take you step-by-step up to the required level. You will be carefully monitored by tests and tutorials by your class teacher and the Director of Studies, and you will receive homework daily. As the exam date approaches, you will be given mock interviews and plenty of practice using past examination papers.

Since 2005, all of the Devon School students who have taken the CPE test after completing this course passed the test with A,B or C grades.

Please note: If you are under 18 booking on a General English 15 hour course, you will be at school and supervised Monday to Friday from 09:00 until 12:30. If you are booking on a English 23 hour course you will be in school from 09:00 until 15:30 Monday to Thursday, finishing on Friday at 12:30. Outside of these periods, and during the 30 minute morning coffee break and 60 minute lunch break, you will not be supervised and will have free time in the afternoons after lessons, in the evenings and at weekends.

We do provide information and support for the students on staying safe in their free time, and a wide range of afternoon and evening activities and day trips at weekend are organized by the school – students need to book and pay for these individually. There are full day excursions organized at the weekends, and students can book and pay for these during the week. It is also possible by arrangement for you to join some of the activities of our teenager school which runs in parallel (again on a pay-as-you-go basis).
