Rich Hall's Hoedown

From: 20:00
Location: Babbacombe Theatre, Babbacombe Downs Road, Torquay, Devon, TQ1 3LU

Rich Hall’s critically acclaimed new show begins its second leg of touring. There has never been a better time to be an American comedian in the UK. Hall’s precision dismantling of the tenuous relationship between two countries is a freewheeling and deadly accurate as ever. His BBC Four documentaries, most recently, Rich Hall’s Countrier Than You and Rich Hall’s Presidential Grudge Match and BBC Radio 4 series Rich Hall’s (US Election) Breakdown have built him a new legion of followers, as has his appearances on Have I Got News for You and QI. But if you’ve only ever seen Hall on TV, you’ve short changed yourself. “As close as it gets to a guaranteed good show” (Scotland on Sunday) The Hoedown begins as a withering dissection of Trump’s America, but ends up being a celebration of Americana. There’s stand-up, improvised ballads, cracking good musicianship, and ultimately a hilarious foot-stomping good time to be had by all. Even if you don’t own a hoe. “Blissfully Funny” (Guardian) 14+ (Parental Guidance) Likely to be swearing and adult content N.B. The reselling of tickets will result in the cancellation of your booking

The first recorded competitive regatta was held on the river Dart at Dartmouth in 1822. Other informal regattas were held in some of the following years leading to the establishment of Dartmouth Regatta in 1834. The regatta later became known as the Port of Dartmouth Regatta and in 1856 the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. The Regatta is based around a programme of rowing and sailing events, but also incorporates a busy programme of activities including air displays, fireworks, a large fair, and many other smaller events that happen in and around the town centre. Nearly 100,000 people visit Dartmouth during the Regatta period, swelling the town’s population of approximately 6,000 and making Dartmouth Regatta one of the largest public events in the South West, and the second largest Regatta after Cowes Week.

Crooners

From: 19:30
Location: Princess Theatre, Torbay Road, Torquay, Devon, TQ2 5EZ

Fans of the Rat Pack and the music of the American Song Book are being offered a very British alternative for 2017. Crooners is a brand new comedy musical that puts a quintessential British twist to a genre symbolized by the Crooner and exemplified by the music of the Rat Pack and the American Song Book. This comedy musical is a collaboration between comedy writer and performer, Roman Marek, and one of the UK’s most prolific modern swing bands, The Mini Big Band, and features music of the greatest Crooners of all time; Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jnr as well as Tony Bennet, Bobby Darin and Britain’s very own crooner, Matt Monro, with a brand new comedy script that has had audiences smiling from ear to ear. 'We love the music of the Rat Pack and the great crooners and wanted to combine that with our love of the British variety comedy show' says script writer Roman Marek. 'We wanted a show that makes British audiences laugh out loud. An all singing, all dancing musical comedy the likes of Morcombe and Wise.' Crooners follows the story of three very British gentlemen who, by their very nature, exhume the characteristics of a crooner; suave, self-assured, stylish. But, by the very same nature, it is not always obvious that these characteristics adopt quite so well by the quintessentially British. Cue a splendiferous injection of British comedy. Tongue firmly in cheek.
